Team Building Events 101
A sports day is usually just games and a scoreboard. Our teambuilding days are built around specific outcomes, things like communication, trust and collaboration, so every activity is chosen and briefed to get colleagues working together in ways they don’t in the office. We design in reflection points and debriefs so people connect the activity back to how they work as a team, not just who won. That said, if you genuinely want a straightforward, fun, competitive sports day, we can do that too. It’s about what your team actually needs, and we’ll ask you that before suggesting a format.
Both, depending on what suits your team and the time of year. We run outdoor programmes at venues across the Emirates, and indoor workshops and activities for offices that want something lower impact or need to work around weather. Many of our in-office programmes are entirely indoor, using meeting rooms or breakout spaces you already have. If you’re not sure what format fits, tell us your headcount, dates and what you’re hoping to get out of it, and we’ll recommend indoor, outdoor or a mix of both.
We’re based in Abu Dhabi, at our flagship gym at the International Tennis Centre in Zayed Sports City, but we run teambuilding programmes across the Emirates, not just on our doorstep. Our team and equipment travel to wherever your organisation is based, and we’ve delivered projects with companies across the UAE. Wherever your office is, let us know your location and we’ll confirm venue options and logistics as part of the quote.
Both ends of the scale. We run intimate sessions for small teams of under twenty, and we’ve also delivered large-scale corporate activations for up to 2,000 participants, including family days with hundreds of children alongside employees. The format changes with the numbers: smaller groups get more tailored, hands-on facilitation, while larger groups need more structure, staffing and safety planning, which is exactly the kind of logistics we’re set up for. Tell us your expected headcount early on so we can plan staffing and equipment correctly.
Yes, and honestly this comes up in almost every office group we work with. Not everyone in a team is equally fit or mobile, and we design activities so people can take part at different intensities without anyone feeling singled out or left out. That might mean offering a lower-impact version of a challenge, adjusting team roles so physical and non-physical strengths both matter, or building in activities that are naturally inclusive, like problem-solving or communication challenges. Tell us in advance if anyone has specific physical considerations and we’ll factor that into the design.
We can pitch it either way, and most days end up being a bit of both. Some clients want a genuinely competitive format with scoring and a winning team announced at the end, which works well for energy and engagement. Others want purely collaborative activities where the whole group succeeds or fails together, which tends to surface communication issues more clearly. We usually recommend a blend, some head-to-head challenges for fun and energy, and some collaborative tasks that force the group to actually talk to each other. Let us know your company culture and we’ll pitch the balance accordingly.
Either way works. If you already have a venue in mind, whether that’s your office, a hotel or an outdoor space, we’ll plan the programme around it. If you don’t, we can suggest venues across the Emirates based on your group size, budget and the type of activities you want, and manage the booking as part of the package. For larger events like sports and family days, we’ve handled full venue coordination, staffing and on-site delivery end to end, so if that’s more useful to you, just say so upfront.
Most single-day sessions run somewhere between half a day and a full working day, depending on the number of activities and the size of the group. A half-day session usually covers two or three activities plus a debrief, which works well if you don’t want to take the whole team out of the office for too long. Full-day sessions allow for more variety, a proper break for lunch, and more depth in the debrief conversations. We’ll scope the exact timing with you based on what you want to achieve and how much time your team can realistically give.
Yes, this is something we do regularly and it often works better than a single event for building lasting habits. Instead of one big day, we design a recurring programme, weekly or monthly sessions delivered in your office, that build on each other over time. This suits companies who want teambuilding and wellbeing to be part of the culture rather than an annual tick-box exercise. We’ll agree a schedule and format with you upfront, and adjust the content as we see how the team responds, so it stays relevant rather than repetitive.
For a standard single-day session, a few weeks’ notice usually gives us enough time to plan the activities, confirm the venue and organise staffing properly. For larger corporate activations or events with hundreds of participants, we’d want a longer lead time, ideally a couple of months, so we can manage logistics, safety planning and any external suppliers properly. If you’re up against a tight deadline, contact us anyway. We’ve delivered on shorter timelines before, but the earlier you reach out, the more options you’ll have.
A HARAKA-run session includes trained facilitators or coaches who lead and brief every activity, all the equipment needed, and safety management appropriate to the activities and group size. For larger events, that extends to full on-site delivery, staffing and safety oversight throughout the day. We assess the venue and activities in advance for anything that needs specific precautions, particularly for outdoor or physical activities in UAE conditions. Anything venue-specific, like catering or AV, we can either manage for you or leave with your team, depending on what you’d rather handle. We’ll confirm exactly what’s included in the quote so there are no surprises on the day.
We ask for feedback directly from participants after the session, usually a short survey or informal debrief, to gauge what landed and what didn’t. For HR and management, we also share our own observations from the day, things like which activities generated the most engagement or where communication broke down and improved. For recurring programmes, this feedback loop matters more, because it shapes what we run next time. We’re honest with clients if something didn’t work as intended. That’s more useful to you than us just telling you it was a success.
Yes, and it’s one of the things we’re set up to do well given our background across wellbeing, events and community programmes. A teambuilding day can include a wellness component, like a fitness challenge or mindfulness session, or a CSR element that ties the activity to a community cause your company supports. We’ve built family days that combine sport, fitness challenges and community elements for thousands of participants, and we can scale that same thinking down to a single corporate teambuilding day. If this matters to your company’s values, mention it early and we’ll build it into the design rather than bolting it on afterwards.
Get in touch with your rough details, headcount, preferred dates, location and what you’re trying to achieve, whether that’s better communication, a reward for the team, or something recurring. We’ll usually follow up with a few questions to understand your team and culture before proposing a format, rather than sending a generic package straight away. From there we’ll put together a proposal with activities, timing and pricing for you to review. There’s no obligation at the quote stage, and we’re happy to talk through options even if you’re still deciding what kind of day would work best.
