Not every child looks forward to PE. Some love it, some tolerate it, and a fair few spend the lesson working out how to avoid the running bit. HARAKA’s School Fun Fitness Sessions were built with that reality in mind, offering something different from a standard physical education class: a burst of playful, high-energy movement that feels more like a party than a lesson…
The format sits under HARAKA’s wider School Outreach service, which delivers leadership, fitness and teamwork initiatives to schools across the UAE. School Outreach as a whole is built around the idea that education and activity work better together, and Fun Fitness Sessions are one of the clearest expressions of that idea in practice. Rather than drills, laps or structured skill-building, the sessions are designed around games, challenges and group activities that get students moving without it feeling like exercise for exercise’s sake.
The thinking behind the format is fairly simple. Students who associate physical activity with fun are far more likely to keep doing it once the session ends, whether that’s in the playground, at home, or later in life. A child who spends thirty minutes laughing through an obstacle relay or a team challenge is learning something different from a child running timed laps: that moving your body can be genuinely enjoyable, not just something you’re told to do. That distinction matters more than it might sound, particularly for students who don’t naturally gravitate towards sport.
In practical terms, the sessions are brought directly into schools rather than requiring students to travel anywhere, which keeps the barrier to entry low and fits neatly into an existing school day. The activities are pitched to be accessible, meaning they don’t rely on a student already having a particular skill level or fitness background. A student who’s never picked up a racket or kicked a ball competitively can still take part fully and enjoy themselves, which is central to the whole approach. The energy is kept high throughout, with activities designed to hold attention and get as many students moving as possible rather than leaving half the group standing around waiting for a turn.
There’s also a social dimension built into the format. Group games and team-based challenges naturally push students to communicate, encourage each other and work towards a shared goal, so the sessions end up doing double duty: building enthusiasm for physical activity while also giving students a low-stakes setting to practise cooperating with classmates they might not usually work with. None of this is delivered with the seriousness of formal PE assessment. The point isn’t to measure performance, it’s to build a positive association with being active.
This is what School Outreach looks like when it’s working well: not a bolt-on activity day, but a format that schools can return to because it consistently lands with students. It’s a small, focused piece of a much larger effort HARAKA puts into UAE schools, but it captures the underlying philosophy neatly. Make it fun first, and the fitness benefits tend to follow on their own.
Fun Fitness Sessions are one small piece of a much bigger commitment to schools that runs through everything we do at HARAKA. Alongside sessions like these, we’ve worked on things like the World Tennis League school campaign and our Healthy School Leaders programme, each with its own story, but all pointing towards the same belief: that young people build lifelong habits around movement when it’s introduced with warmth rather than pressure.
That belief connects directly to why HARAKA exists in the first place. We’re a wellbeing company Abu Dhabi families and organisations have come to know through our flagship gym at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City, but the gym is really just one part of a much wider picture. Alongside Gym & Physical Wellness, we run Employee Wellbeing, Team Building, Events Management, School Outreach and Active Youth Holiday Camps, working with individuals, corporate teams, schools and government entities right across the UAE. We’ve been doing this for a good number of years now, and school programmes have been part of that story from early on.
What ties all six services together is a fairly stubborn idea: that wellness isn’t just about gym sessions and personal training, it’s about how movement fits into everyday life, whether that’s a school playground, an office floor, or a public space during one of our community activations Abu Dhabi residents might recognise from a weekend event. A corporate wellbeing programme and a school fitness session look very different on the surface, but they’re built on the same instinct, which is to make being active something people want to do rather than something they’re told to do.
Schools are a particularly meaningful part of that mission because the habits formed early tend to stick. A student who has a good experience with movement at eight or nine years old carries that forward in a way that’s hard to replicate with adults who’ve already decided sport isn’t for them. That’s part of why we keep investing time and creativity into formats like Fun Fitness Sessions rather than treating school visits as a one-off box to tick.
If you’re part of a school in the UAE and you like the sound of bringing this kind of energy into your students’ week, or if you’re simply curious how our School Outreach work might fit your setting, we’d genuinely like to hear from you. Get in touch with the HARAKA team and we can talk through what it might look like at your school.
